Knowledge Base for Pi
Pi keeps its core deliberately small. It loads project instructions, stores shareable session trees, and lets extensions add capabilities that other harnesses bake in. That makes the boundary between installed capability, trusted environment, and reviewed organizational knowledge especially important.

AGENTS.md and SYSTEM.md context
Pi gives you primitives, not automatic governance: name the extension, scope the environment, and review the result.
Pi intentionally omits built-in MCP, subagents, permission popups, and plan mode.
An extension can add tools, events, UI, context injection, or custom controls; installed code is part of the trust boundary.
Summaries preserve useful context but are not a substitute for source-of-truth evidence.
Official guidance points to containerization and project trust; those controls do not validate a claim.

Knowledge Base for Pi: practical questions
Pi gives you primitives, not automatic governance: name the extension, scope the environment, and review the result.
Does Pi include a built-in MCP client?
No. The official site frames MCP as something to add through an extension or package; do not treat third-party support as native behavior.
Can an AGENTS.md file hold changing status?
It can, but it is the wrong owner for mutable cross-system facts. Keep project instructions there and review business state separately.
Is a shared session an approval record?
No. It is provenance. A reviewer still needs a bounded claim and source evidence.
Do extensions provide governance by default?
They can implement controls, but their presence does not prove that an outcome was reviewed or remains current.
